Evening dress and A-line, V-shaped, hourglass shape: which cut for whom

Beyond color and fabric, the cut remains the key factor that distinguishes a dress that "fits well" from one that truly flatters the figure. Here's how to find the right dress for your body type.

A-shaped silhouette (hips more pronounced than shoulders)

A dress that flares from the waist, in chiffon or flowing crepe, naturally balances proportions without excessively emphasizing the hips. A-line or empire cuts work particularly well.

V-shaped silhouette (shoulders wider than hips)

Conversely, a straight or slightly flared cut at the bottom, with a simpler top (without shoulder pads or puffed sleeves), balances the silhouette downwards. V-necks or boat necks remain good choices for softening the shoulders.

Hourglass figure (balanced shoulders and hips, defined waist)

This body type is the most suitable for most dress styles. Dresses fitted at the waist, like those available in our navy blue dress collection, particularly highlight this natural proportion.

H-shaped silhouette (shoulders, waist and hips aligned)

A straight, structured cut, without a pronounced waistline, or conversely, a wide belt that artificially creates a waist, helps break up the straight line. The khaki models with a defined waist from our khaki collection illustrate this principle well.

One thing all body types have in common: the fabric matters as much as the cut.

The same cut will look different depending on whether it's in satin (more structured, accentuates the figure more) or chiffon (more fluid, more forgiving). If you're unsure about a cut, the fluid fabric is often the safest choice.

In summary

There is no universal cut, but simple principles according to body shape: balance what is emphasized on the bottom at the top, and vice versa. Our collection of evening dresses It brings together all the available cuts for easy comparison.
